Head of Finance

On behalf of our client, a reputable international law firm in Budapest, we are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Head of Finance to take overall responsibility for the local finance function.

This is a senior yet hands-on position, working closely with the firm’s local leadership as well as its international headquarters. The successful candidate will combine strong financial management and reporting capabilities with the willingness to remain involved in day-to-day finance matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the local finance function, including cash flow, liquidity planning, treasury and banking activities

  • Manage annual budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning

  • Prepare management reports, financial analyses and KPIs for local management, partners and international headquarters

  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing, financial statements and group reporting

  • Coordinate and supervise external accounting, payroll, audit and other finance service providers

  • Oversee accounts receivable, payments and related finance operations

  • Provide profitability and performance analysis across clients, matters, projects and practice areas, including WIP monitoring

  • Review, develop and improve internal finance processes and controls

  • Lead and supervise members of the local finance team

  • Act as a trusted finance partner to senior management while remaining hands-on when required

Your Background

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in finance, accounting, controlling or financial management

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, accounting principles and financial analysis

  • Experience coordinating external audits

  • Previous experience in a law firm or other professional services environment is an advantage

  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills

  • Fluent English, both written and spoken

  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills

  • Proactive, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work effectively in an international environment
